Bonus Poker video poker at Fair Go
Bonus Poker is Jacks or Better with a reward for four of a kind: quads pay more, and four aces pay most. Fair Go lists Bonus Poker among its video poker games but doesn't publish its pay table, so this page uses the standard 8-5 version and shows you how to check the one in the game.

The 8-5 pay table, line by line
Video poker deals every hand from a freshly shuffled 52-card deck, so the chance of each final hand never changes. What a casino can change is the pay table, and in Bonus Poker two lines tell you which version you're on: the full house and the flush. The common full-strength version pays 8 and 5 per coin, which is why it's called 8-5.
Played perfectly, 8-5 Bonus Poker returns 99.17%, a house edge of 0.83%. Shave a unit off the full house and the return drops by roughly a point:
- 8-5 Bonus Poker99.17%
- 7-5 Bonus Poker98.01%
- 6-5 Bonus Poker96.87%
These are standard figures for the usual tables, with perfect strategy. Fair Go doesn't say which one it runs, so open the pay table in the game: if the full house reads 8 and the flush 5, you're on the 8-5 table above. Check the royal flush too. At five coins it should jump to 4,000, and that jump is part of the 99.17%.
Bonus Poker vs Jacks or Better and Double Double Bonus
Think of the three as steps on a ladder, each one moving more of the return into four of a kind.
| Hand, per coin | Jacks or Better 9-6 | Bonus Poker 8-5 | Double Double Bonus 10-6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four aces | 25 | 80 | 160 (400 with a 2, 3 or 4) |
| Four 2s, 3s or 4s | 25 | 40 | 80 (160 with an ace to 4) |
| Four 5s to kings | 25 | 25 | 50 |
| Full house and flush | 9 and 6 | 8 and 5 | 10 and 6 |
| Two pair | 2 | 2 | 1 |
Jacks or Better pays every quad the same and keeps the full house and flush high, so its results are the smoothest of the three. Bonus Poker gives up one unit on each of those two hands to fund its quad bonuses. Double Double Bonus goes much further: big kicker payouts for four aces, paid for by cutting two pair to even money. That makes it the swingiest, with long quiet stretches between the hands that matter.
Bonus Poker sits in between. It plays almost exactly like Jacks or Better, and a four of a kind (about once every 420 hands or so) lands a little harder.
Bonus Poker strategy: a hold-priority list
The quad bonuses are too rare to change many decisions, so Bonus Poker strategy is nearly the same as for Jacks or Better. Go down this list and keep the first thing your five cards contain:
- Any four of a kind, straight flush or royal flush.
- Four cards of a royal flush, even if that breaks a made flush or straight.
- A full house, flush, straight or three of a kind (hold all three and draw two).
- Four cards of a straight flush.
- Two pair: keep both and draw one card.
- A pair of jacks, queens, kings or aces.
- Three cards of a royal flush.
- Four suited cards to a flush.
- A low pair, 2s up to 10s.
- Four in a row with both ends open.
- Two high cards of the same suit.
- Three cards of a straight flush.
- Two high cards of different suits, choosing the two lowest if you hold three.
- A 10 with a jack, queen or king of the same suit.
- A single high card.
- Nothing worth keeping: discard all five.
Two habits matter more than the fine print. Always hold a pair of 2s, 3s or 4s rather than a lone high card, because those pairs are the start of a 40-coin quad. And never hold a kicker beside a pair: in Bonus Poker a kicker earns nothing extra.
How Bonus Poker plays at Fair Go
Fair Go says you can play 1 to 100 hands at once. In multi-hand play you set your holds once, the held cards appear on every hand, and each hand draws its replacements from its own deck. The return per hand stays where the pay table puts it, but the cost of a deal multiplies: five coins at 5c across 20 hands is $5 a deal.
Two things to check before you play with bonus money. Fair Go caps bets at $10 while you're wagering a bonus, so add up coins, coin size and hands before you deal. And Fair Go's terms decide how much video poker counts towards the 30x wagering; that weighting isn't in our facts register, so read the terms first. If you'd rather play without either limit, deposit without a code.
For a game where Fair Go does publish a return, see Aces and Eights, or browse every title on our video poker page.
